Was ist das für eine eigenartige Mischung aus Computer und Konsole? Und warum machte Jackie Chan in der 80ern dafür Werbung? Das ist der ‚Xiao Bawang Education Computer‚  und ja er ist auch ein voll funktionsfähiger Nachbau von Nintendo’s NES.

Das Teil war irre populär in China und kam seit 1985 in verschiedenen Versionen auf den Markt. Vertrieben als Lern-Computer wurde er mit einer Cartrige geliefert auf der diverse Bildung-Games zu finden waren. Man konnte jedoch auch zwei mitgelieferte Controller anschliessen und damit jedes NES Spiel starten.

Die Xiao Bawang Company gab sich übrigens den westlichen Namen ‚Subor‘ und war lange Zeit das wertvollste Tech Unternehmen Chinas. Keine Wunder also, dass man sich Jackie Chan als Werbeikone einkaufen konnte.

The Xiao Bawang Education Computer was China’s response to the popularity of the NES and Famicom game systems around the world. Duan Yongping, a young entrepreneur, led the delivery of the home computer to the public, bringing classic games and experiences to a whole generation. While often remembered for the iconic endorsement from Jackie Chan, it was the system’s software that led the machine to be fondly remembered by generations of children.
