Mac DeMarco: 2 – 10th Anniversary Edition
Kaum zu glauben aber Mac DeMarco’s zweites Album „2“ wird bald auch schon wieder zehn Jahre alt. Und plötzlich poppt dazu diese super sweete Jubiläums-Edition auf ‚colored‘ Doppel Vinyl auf.

Für mich auf jeden Fall überraschend und gefühlt nur einen Hauch von der „Rock and Roll Night Club“ Reissue entfernt. Es ist ja nicht so, dass Mac’s Alben über die Jahre nicht immer mal wieder (auch in unterschiedlichen Vinlfarben) nachgepresst worden wären. Aber diese wirklich sehr fette „tri-color“ Variante in orange, weiss und grau namens „Viceroy-Vinyl“ schlägt dann doch alles andere, vor allem meine recht langweilige dunkelgrüne Version von Newbury Comics.
Außerdem beinhaltet die „10th Anniversary Edition“ nicht nur das Original Album sondern auch die obligatorischen „Demos“ die Mac traditionell zu jedem seiner Studioalben irgendwann später raushaut. Auch die werden die meisten Fans wohl schon im Regal stehen haben aber so what? :)
Mac DeMarco’s debut full length, 2, released in 2012, cleaned up the songwriter’s warped take on soft rock and brought it to a broader audience. Given DeMarco’s affinity for keeping things lo-fi — 2 was the first time he’d bothered to record demos — it’s revealing to hear these songs in their most embryonic form. The performances here are a little looser and the sound a little hazier than on the actual LP, lending an atmosphere of dreamy vulnerability, especially to ballads like “Annie” and the Lennon-esque “Sherrill.”
