Jim O’Rourke hat ein Ambient Album aufgenommen und das vermutlich einfach weil er es kann. Sleep like it’s Winter hat nur einen Track und der geht rund vierundvierzig Minuten.

Das einzige wofür der Wahljapaner und Ex Sonic Youth Bassist unverwechselbar ist, ist seine Wandelbarkeit. Sein letztes Album ‚Simple Songs‘ ist aus dem Jahr 2015 und ist komplett im Alleingang und perfekt produzierter Folk/Pop.
Nun gibt er sein Talent für ein neues Electronic Musik-Label aus Tokio namens NEWHERE MUSIC her und ‚Sleep like it’s Winter‚ ist deren erstes Release.
Facettenreich, minimalistisch, progressiv und definitiv überraschend ist das Ergebnis geworden. Es mischen sich ‚Field Recordings‘ mit Drone Elemente, exzessiver Hall mit endlos ineinander greifenden sphärischen Echos, zu einer unvorhersehbaren meditativen Ruhe, toll!
Bislang nur auf CD (Japan Import), digital auf Bandcamp und in voller Länge auf YouTube. Ich werde mich da mal richtig reinhören, kann aber eigentlich schon jetzt sagen, dass ich sehr interessiert bin an einer Vinyl Variante.
No matter which route you take, “sleep like it’s winter” occupies its own space, a miniature curio cabinet that brings together his music throughout the years: synthesizer, pedal steel, piano and shortwave radio are his only tools this time, but it touches on all times and places, but most importantly, on now.
